Super Bowl 35 was held on January 28th, 2001 between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens. In the second quarter, Ravens quarterback Trent Dilfer threw an interception to Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead who returned the INT for a touchdown to tie the game.
A highly questionable defensive holding penalty on Giants defensive tackle Keith Hamilton was called and enforced to wipe out the touchdown.
“One of the other refs came to me on the field and told me, ‘There’s no way you make that call,’ ” Armstead said. “Instead of a tied game, we were soon down, 10-0, because they kicked a field goal. That’s a big swing. I would have loved to see Dilfer come back on the field after that interception knowing it was a tied game and we were coming after him again.”
