The poor wording of the NFL Protection of Passer rules resulted in an injustice on January 19th, 2002 when the Raiders were robbed of a fumble recovery in a playoff game against the Patriots.

According to the current wording, a quarterback can continually pump the ball and be virtually immune from fumbling. This is a gross aberration and a loophole that needs serious attention.
